The Booster Club/ Butter Braids

Taekwondo Competition is life enriching, and can sometimes be wallet slimming. To counter the slimming of any families’ wallet we encourage the use of the MTC Booster Club as a source of funds for competition or other extras like the Dae Myung Winter Camp.
Currently Booster Club members can sell the very delicious Butter Braids to earn money for their Booster Club account ($3 from each braid goes directly into the student’s account). Students can sell until March 8th and the Braids will be delivered on March 20th.

To learn more about this and other facets of the MTC Booster Club please plan to attend the Monthly meeting , scheduled this month for February 13th at 5:30PM (may be changed to February 20th-announced soon).

You on the National Team?

We encourage all MTC students to envision themselves as part of the 2012 Missoula Taekwondo Center National Team.

Every year a group of students from MTC travel to the USA Taekwondo Nationals.  You (or your child) have the potential to be part of this team.  The first (and really the only) criteria for being a member of this team is the desire to be and do something great.  Together and individually we will train, fundraise, travel and grow.

OK, inall honesty, you have to do more than just have a desire to share in this experience, you will also then need to put forth the effort to grow physically and mentally, but once you DECIDE the experience will begin to unfold in front of you.  This experience has been life changing for everyone who chose to step in the arena, so to speak.

Being part of this team is realistic for nearly every one of our students.  You can compete at nationals from the age of 6 through 106 and from yellow to black belt.

We are kicking off the season with an informational meeting at 5:30 on November 9th.  Everyone who has a desire to compete or simply a curiosity should attend this meeting .  We will discuss what it takes, in all areas, to have a positive experience on the MTC National Team.

  • The physical preparation needed
  • The roll of the Booster Club (financially an otherwise)
  • Individual and team development aside from just physical
  • Travel to regional and national events
Join us to discover how to reach a new level within your Taekwondo training and your life.  Wednesday November 9th at 5:30pm.

Missoula Taekwondo Championships

All MTC Students are invited to compete at the Missoula Taekwondo Championships on October 22nd at the RAM Activity Center.  There will be competition in sparring and poomsae with special divisions for disabled individuals.  We will also feature Sport Poomsae and Electronic Hogu exhibitions.

A special rate of $40 is available to MTC students.  Pick up the registration and info at MTC and turn it in by October 19th.

Dearest MTC Family, we choose to host this event every year because of you, our TKD family.  Tournament preparation takes a concerted effort by The Rosbarsky's and our entire TKD family, and, in the end, it is so worth it. We watch our students and Taekwondoists from all around the state (and a few neighboring ones as well) step into the ring and give their hearts and bodies a test.  Most will go home carrying 1 or more trophies and all will leave having experienced something great--a life enriching, boundary testing, self-building FUN event.

What has always made this the greatest Montana Taekwondo event is the group effort put forth by our MTC Family.  We have opportunities for every person to contribute to the day.

  • The booster club will be looking for donations of food to make the National Team Concessions a profitable venture for our Nationals athletes.
  • Help is needed to set up and take down the event.
  • Door sales, equipment sales, computer operators, ring runners, hospitality coordinator, button sales, ring coordinators and oodles of other positions are available to be filled.
  • After the tournament is taken down those who volunteered the day will be treated dinner at China Garden as a thank you.
Sign up sheets will be at the dojang beginning October 3rd.

The Booster Club is here for you, our TKD family.

Meet October 5th at 5:30 to find out how to make the Booster Club work for you.

We are hyperaware of financial constraints as they relate to extracurriculars.  Taekwondo participation requires a dedicated amount of funds each month for the class portion, and participating in functions outside of class are sometimes not even looked at as an option by some families because of costs associated.  The MTC Booster Club is here to make that a non-issue.  To find out how your efforts combined with the Booster Club's can open doors for you in Taekwondo and life attend the October 5th meeting at 5:30.

Cookie Dough Sale underway now!
  • Earn money for you TKD extracurriculars
  • Sales forms available at MTC
  • Cash prizes for first to sell 20 tubs and most tubs sold.
  • Start now, finish October 26th

Nationals Just 25 Weeks Away

2011 Nationals in San Jose are for martial artists 6+ and Green Belt+.  MTC currently has 9 athletes committed to compete.

Although this is the first step toward international level competition this is not JUST an opportunity for those who believe they are superstars in Taekwondo but it really is for anyone who is willing to dedicate themselves to accomplishing a goal.

Please plan to attend the Jan 5th Booster Club meeting or call Mrs. Rosbarsky to let her know you are interested.  We are always interested in enabling our students to attain their goals.

An Open Invitation to ALL MTC Families

USA Taekwondo Nationals will be held in San Jose, California in July 2011.  USAT Nationals is an event which can have a profound influence on one’s life-if you so choose.  The process of committing to, training for and otherwise preparing for an event like this will influence the direction of your martial art’s and life’s paths.  If you wish to hone your skills in Taekwondo and life being part of this team will jump start you and give you an opportunity to see what potential you truly have buried inside of you.
We are excited to invite ALL students to become part of the MTC National Team.  This means every student who will be at least 6 years old by December 31st, 2011 and a green belt or higher can join the MTC National Team.  No one is excluded from this invitation (except that sadly the youngest division is 6-7 year olds).  This means that age on the other end is not a restriction at all (you can not be too old for this competition).  There are divisions for all belts, weights, sexes, ages and events.
Join us at the Ice Cream Social September 8th at 6PM to hear the stories from 2010 nationals and get more information about 2011 Nationals.

Dinner and a Show

Every Spring we gather for a very fun evening at MTC.  This year that evening, our Dinner and a Show, will be Friday May 7th.  Dinner and a Show is a combination MTC student talent show, Korean BarBQ and Pot Luck, Kick-a-thon and Silent Auction.

The Talent Show is open to all prepared and signed up in advance MTC students who have a nonTKD talent to share.  So, think about your performance--music, theater, dance, or any other entertaining talent.

The Korean BarBQ will be prepared by the Rosbarsky's and all families in attendance are asked to bring a Pot Luck contribution, so dust off your best recipes.

The Kick-a-thon is a simple fundraiser for athletes going to Nationals and other students who wish to participate.  First, participants gather pledges. Then each person kicks for 1 minute and their total pledges are calculated and collected.

The Silent Auction is assembled by the booster club and the preceeds are used to help offset the cost of attending Nationals ($1500-$1800/person).

Give a little thought to how you would like to participate--Talent, Food, Kicking or an Auction Item/Items.

FUN Tournament and MTChampionships Coming Up Fast

Our 3rd Fun Tournament will be September 12th.

All MTC students are invited and encouraged to participate by Sparring or doing their Poomse. (Parents are also encouraged to be active spectators and be a part of the Booster Club Concessions.) This event will be fun and beneficial for all, but especially for those who are just being introduced to Taekwondo and/or tournaments. This is a great way to get your feet wet for the Fall '09 tournament season or to discover the benefits of Taekwondo tournament in a safe familiar environment for about 1/2 the cost of most local tournaments. Sign ups are on the bulletin board or online at missoulatkd.com. The cost is $25 per person. Please sign up by Friday September 11th.

We also encourage participation in our annual invitational, the Missoula Taekwondo Championships to be held in Missoula's RAM Activity Center on Saturday, October 24th. This will be a great opportunity to connect with the greater Montana Taekwondo community.

To have the greatest benefit from these events we encourage all families to find ways to be involved. Our event will be most successful with help from our entire TKD family. Sign up sheets for the FUN Tournament will be available this week and sign up sheets will be available for the October 24th tourney in late September.

The food sales for both tournaments will be handled by the Booster Club. With donated food items it may be possible for the food sales to generate a profit to be used for fun events and assisting students in need. Requested items include: Hoagie Rolls, Lunch Meats, Sliced Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Condiments, Homemade Salads and Soups, individually wrapped deserts and treats, fruit, disposable plates, bowls and utensils.

We would love for you to join us in putting on this wonderful event and we truly appreciate our diverse family with varied individual talents at MTC.

Booster Club Future in Question

Currently the Booster Club has many beneficial aspects for all MTC students, however, the benefits are being vastly underutilized. It seems that the Booster Club could benefit from a restructuring of sorts. The May 13th meeting will be important to the future of the organization.

On May 13th from 6-7PM the MTC Booster Club will under go some restructuring. We implore all families to come to this meeting to be a part of the future of the organization.

Our wish is for this organization to remain strong and be driven by parents and students at MTC. There are great opportunities to add depth and meaning to the lives and martial arts experiences of current and future MTC students, so we encourage all MTC families to be involved.

Join us in the office on May 13th from 6-7pm.

Spring Tournament Action

Upcoming Dates

  • April 4th--Philipsburg

  • April 18th--Billings

  • April 25th--Livingston

  • May 9th--Great Falls

Spring is already underway with our own FUN Tournament and with the Bozeman AAU Qualifying Tournament. Within the next 5 weeks there are some great tournament opportunities.

First a great small invitational on April 4th in Philipsburg. For those who are not Spring Breaking this will be a fun tournament.

The three tournaments we recommend to all students, but especially beginners are Billings on April 18th, Livingston on April 25th, and Great Falls on May 9th. The Livingston and Great Falls tournaments are great for all level competition and are historically run very well.

We most highly recommend the Livingston Tournament for 3 reasons--it is always very well run; they give trophies for 1st,2nd and 3rd place participants; and reasonable cost($40-$55).

Join in the FUN at our Tournament

ALL Missoula TKD students are invited to join us in our 2nd FUN Tournament on February 7th.

This tournament is perfect for tournament first-timers and for those looking to gear up for the Spring Tournament season in Montana. For parents wondering if now is the right time to do a tournament the best way to tell is if there is interest, if so then this tournament is the perfect one--friendliest environment, least driving, least expensive and most FUN.

Our first FUN Tournament in September was a great success in that it provided a wonderful gathering for all our students and a great learning tool for both parents and students.

To sign up, please return the Registration form by Friday, February 6th.

All individuals planning to compete must be in full uniform. Sparrers must have their own forearm and shin/instep pads, mouthpiece and groin cup (total cost $23 for Girls and $33 for Boys). Please purchase these items before the day of the tournament. Full gear also includes the helmet and chest protector. All these items may be purchased at Missoula TKD, but you are only encouraged to buy the helmet and chest protector if you know you will be attending future tournaments as well. Please feel free to borrow these two items from the MTC if you do not want to purchase them for this tournament.

Please note the changes to the format of this FUN Tournament: a staggered start for different belt levels, two rings running for sparring, and full concessions all day by the Booster Club.

The Booster Club will host concessions throughout the day during the FUN tournament and are looking for donations of food items. Individuals who donate will receive vouchers to use the day of the tournament.
Please see the sign up on the front desk at TKD.
Also as a reminder, the Booster Club hosts concessions during the Friday Night Belt Tests as well.
