Join in the FUN at our Tournament

The MTC FUN Tournament is BACK.

This tournament is perfect for tournament first timers and for those looking to gear up for the Spring Tournament season in Montana. For parents wondering if now is the right time to do a tournament, first, gauge if there is interest, if so then this tournament is the perfect one– friendliest environment, least driving, least expensive and most FUN.

Our previous FUN Tournaments have been great successes, in that they provide a wonderful gathering for all our students and a great learning tool for both parents and students.

To sign up please return a registration form by Friday, February 5th. Registration Forms and Information can be obtained at the dojang or at missoulatkd.com

All individuals planning to compete must be in full uniform. Sparrers must have their own forearm and shin/instep pads, mouthpiece and groin cup (total cost $23 for Girls and $33 for Boys). Please purchase these items before the day of the tournament. Full gear also includes the helmet and chest protector all these items may be purchased at Missoula TKD but you are only encouraged to buy the helmet and chest protector if you know you will be attending future tournaments as well, otherwise please feel free to borrow these 2 items from MTC.

Please note there is a staggered start time, and full concessions all day by the Booster Club.

The Booster Club will host concessions throughout the day during the FUN tournament and are looking for donations of food items. Individuals who donate will receive vouchers to use the day of the tournament.

Please see the sign up on the front desk at TKD.

The Booster Club is here to help all our students earn their own funds to use for TKD extras, like tournaments and gear.

Why all the Extras?

Missoula Taekwondo Center has Ski Days, Movie Nights, Talent Shows, Teen Nights, Girls Nights, group outings to Martial Arts movies, Fun Tournaments and so many more extra events. Why?

Not only do we feel it is our purpose to encourage positive change in our students lives, but we strive to create a community of like minded individuals who are all traveling their own path to self betterment. We wish to foster an environment for the growth of each individual in a healthy, supportive “family.”

A Few Notes to Help you Plan your Spring and Summer

Our Regular Class Schedule will continue through the summer, but may experience some minor changes. Consult future Newsletters for more information.

Those interested in the National Tournaments should talk with Mrs. Rosbarsky before the February 10th Booster Club Meeting. Commitment letters are due by February 27th. (For more information contact Mrs. R.)

The Booster Club exists to help make Taekwondo and Tournaments accessible for every interested person regardless of individual financial status.

Currently the Booster Club meets at 6PM the second Wednesday of the month and is spring tournaments, fundraising needs and desired spring fundraisers and individuals interested in Nationals and Junior Nationals this Summer. We are open to input from all interested parties, join us to be a part of the decision making team.

Summer Camps at MTC will run the first 2 weeks after MCPS lets out for the summer: June 14th-18th and June 21st-25th. These will be day camps running from 9AM-3PM for 6-12 year olds (one or both weeks) and 9AM-11AM for 4-5 year olds (week 1 only). We will once again have tons of TKD fun and have some fun in the sun as well.

Our Teen TKD Camp is planned for July as well.

We also plan to hold a 1 week camp August 16th-19th if there is sufficient interest.

Talk with Mrs. Rosbarsky to put your name on the list for these summer camps.

The Annual MTC Black Belt Test is anticipated to be held Fall of 2010. Those who are interested in testing please contact Mrs. Rosbarsky.

Valentine’s Date Night while the Kids Play at TKD

This year Valentine’s day is on a weekend (a long weekend.) TKD Families can make the most of it by brining their kids (potty trained through 12 years old) to the Fun Night at TKD.

The MTC Booster Club is hosting a Fun Night at TKD on February 13th. There will be dinner and games from 5-10PM.

The cost is $15 per child and $10 for each additional child per family.

This Fun night will operate much like TKD Movie Nights except that there will be no one sleeping over. An Italian Dinner will be served and there will be games and activities for all.

Sign up in advance on the front counter at the dojang.

Tournament Participation Encouraged

Participating in a tournamnet causes a person to extend themselves in a safe way, learning lessons a person outside of TKD may not ever learn, let alone in a relatively encouraging environment.

There are obious lessons of what it feels like to kick and be kicked, how to avoid being kicked and how to anticipate and even draw out what your opponent might do, as well as what it feels like to be tested over your knowledge.  There are also less obvious benefits like feeling what it is like to practice something so that you know it well enough to overcome a fear of performing or a fear of failure.  Possibly the greatest lesson is knowing that you have the capacity to prepare for a test and to overcome known and unknown obstacles because you have faith in yourself and the support of your TKD family.

We encourage you all to participate.
