Demo Team—The Big Show

Every year that we have been in business we have participated in First Night Missoula with a demonstration performed by our students and every year it has gotten bigger and bigger. Crowds gather to watch our high flying kicks and powerful board and brick breaking but are captivated by our performance because they can see themselves in each of the performers.  Our demo teams have always been made up of all ages and belt levels and we are most proud of the diversity represented in our yearly performance.

This year we invite you.

Come be part of this fantastic group and share with your family and community your passion and hard work.

Practices begin December 4th and will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-7:30 until December 20th.  There will also be daily practices December 26-28th, 5:30-6:30.

Additional practices may be scheduled. On New Year’s Eve we will begin practicing at 11:30AM. The performance is December 31st at 3:45PM in JC Penny Court at Southgate Mall.  Our performers will all receive a First Night button that will allow them to partake in the city wide activities.

Please sign up at the dojang and make every effort to be at all the practices.

Paddleball Tournament

“It should be an Olympic Sport.”

Once used only as an informal warm up, Paddleball is now in its 4th year of near Olympic status. Okay, maybe not Olympic status, but it is an incredibly competitive tournament with as much spirit as you would see displayed in any other world championship quality sport.

This year’s tournament will be Saturday, December 22nd starting at 10AM.

Register your team in the Teen/Adult division or in the Child/Mixed team division. The Teen/Adult division is for highly competitive 3 member teams of ages 14+. Child/ Mixed teams can have up to 4 members and up to 1 adult. Players from outside the dojang may be approved by the tournament committee if a request is made in person prior to the competition date. Winners will receive bragging rights and their names engraved on the championship plaque. Paddles will be shared or you may purchase your own pretournament date.

There is a $15 team registration fee and teams must register by December 19th. Also included as part of the registration “fee” teams must provide 1 main or side dish to share for our pot luck lunch. We will all be working up quite the appetite. Sign up as a team or indicate your free agency status on the sign up sheet on the bulletin board.

Teams are encouraged to create a strong team identity with team jerseys, team cheers, mascots, theme songs and such. This is a day where we are channeling our inner warriors and we have the opportunity to assume a persona we wouldn’t normally, but it will still be important to remember that at the end of the day we are all still family.

In short, have fun, play hard.

Movie Night/Lock In

One of our greatest extras at MTC are the movie nights for our 7-12 year olds. Parents will enjoy a night off (or out) while the kids spend the night at the dojang. They will get about 8 hours of sleep after 5 hours filled with games, rock climbing, movies, popcorn and pizza.
The event is chaperoned by The Rosbarskys and other MTC Black Belts.
We will watch G and PG movies from the Rosbarsky’s video library chosen by the kiddos. We have pizza for dinner and movie snacks, including popcorn from our commercial popper.
Sign up by December 7th on the front counter.

Adjusted Holiday Schedule

December’s schedule will run like normal with the exception of a half hour demonstration practice each Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 December 4th-20th (this will push the Sparring Class back to start at 7:30).

When MCPS is out for the Holiday break there will be no regular classes held December 24th– January 1st.
During this time we will offer 2 classes for our diehards on December 26th and 28th from 4:30-5:30.  All ages and belt levels are welcome to these 2 classes and they are generally a great time to bond with your fellow TKD family members.

Regular classes will resume January 2nd.

Fun coming up

I know our name says we are a “Taekwondo Center” but if you have not noticed we also have a lot more than just martial arts going on here. In the next 2 months we will have a Movie Night/Lock In, Craft fair, First Night Demonstration, and our much anticipated Paddleball Tournament.

The Movie Night/Lock In to be held on December 8th/9th 7PM-8AM is for students and their friends age 7-12. The cost is $25 per person. The fun includes movies on the big screen, popcorn, rock climbing, hide and seek and a sleepover with 40 of your closest TKD friends. Please sign up and pay in advance.

Craft Fair hosted by Master Glenn Parks will be held December 8th, 15th and 22nd. Local artists including a few of our very own TKD family will have their wares on display and for sale just in time for Holiday gift giving.

The First Night Demonstration, a long standing tradition at MTC, will take place on December 31st at JC Penny Court in Southgate Mall. We will begin practicing the first week of December on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:00-7:30. Everyone is welcome to be on the Demo Team. There are usually about 50 students who participate in this demo. All skill levels are welcome. To ensure a premier spot in the demo start practicing now on Fridays at 7:00 in our Flips and Tricks class with Coach Keane and his brother Lane. Sign ups for the Demo will begin after Thanksgiving.

The Paddleball Tournament will once again be held the Saturday before Christmas. For those of you who have not participated in this event you are in for a surprise. The competition is fierce and preparations begin way in advance. Teams come up with team names, mascots and jerseys. Sign up as a team of 3 in the Teen/Adult division or a team of up to 4 with 3 kids and 1 adult (team make ups must be preapproved by the tournament committee (AKA Mrs. Rosbarsky). The entry fee is $10 per person.

Thank you

The Love and Effort shown by our TKD family in our October tournament is overwhelming. Every year we are honored to be joined by so many of our students and their supporters to pull off the tremendous Missoula Taekwondo Championships. This year, our 10th, was one to be remembered for the across the board participation. The Booster Club effort was spread out to many families thanks to the organizational and driving effort of a few families. The list of individuals who gave of themselves so every athlete and family could have a rewarding experience is pages long.

Thank you to all of you for giving of yourselves to make for such a fantastic event for all of Montana’s martial artists.
