Montana State Taekwondo Championships - in Missoula June 8th and 9th

We, Missoula Taekwondo Center, are co-hosting the 2012 MT State TKD Championships in Missoula along with the MT TKD Academy.  We are excited for this opportunity to show the state just how well the Missoula Taekwondo Community can work together and pull off the most fantastic state tournament to date.
This is a perfect opportunity for all of our students to give their best in competition and strive to become state champions or at the very least better martial artists and better people.  The cost is $45 for MTA members and $70 for non-members.
There is competition in forms, sparring, pairs, team and creative forms.
Please find your registrations by clicking HERE or at the dojang.  There is also a sign up sheet for volunteers on the front counter.  We will be responsible for many tournament operations including admissions, registration, holding and other logistical elements.  This is a great way to contribute to and feel a part of the greater Montana Taekwondo Community.

Belt Testing

Initially planned for June 22nd, our next test will be June 15th.

Please sign up in advance for this and all tests.  The cost of all colored belt tests is $25

The Way Testing Works:  We require at least 3 months between each belt test ( a minimum of 2 tips are required to be eligible to test) and recommend no more than 4.5 months. We aim to hold belt tests (not tip tests which are held in class on or around the last class day of each month)  every 6 weeks, so there should be one happening when you are ready to test.

Belt Tests happen on Fridays and you must signup in advance.

Tests are cumulative, so be prepared to be tested over all that you have ever learned in TKD.  Review old techniques and be prepared to show any and all poomsae up to your current level.

Dinner and a Show

Dinner, Show, Services Auction, Kick-a-thon, purpose.  The purpose of this event is twofold.  First, we want to give our TKD family an opportunity to shine in front of their TKD family in what they do outside of the Dojang.  Second, the proceeds from the event are used to offset the costs incurred by our athletes on their bid to become national champions.

The show was a showcase of the many varied talents of our students.  We encouraged all levels of singing, dancing, magic, acting, juggling, and anything that they have worked hard to perfect outside of the amazing TKD skills which we already get to see regularly. Every year it has been a great joy to see our students bravely stand up in front of their TKD family and share their talents, from the 5th grade band students and our college level performers who receive full ride scholarships for their talents, to a 4 year old art showing and a slice 'em dice 'em infomercial.

Dinner is centered around 40 pounds of Master Rosbarsky's Bulgogi, Korean Bar-B-Q beef, that is loved by all.  There was also many other goodies in the potluck.

The Kick-a-thon performed by the 2012 MTC Junior National Team is always fun to watch where athletes kick for 1 minute to earn pledges to help them get to Dallas for this year's nationals.  The Services Auction was a first this year.  Our teen athletes offered themselves for chores, yard work, baby sitting, private lessons in Taekwondo and maybe some other things as well.  They went to the highest bidder.

There are still ways to help out the athletes by purchasing raffle tickets for the Kona Mahuna bicycle from Missoula Bike Works, concessions, donations...
Thank you for making this years' Dinner and a Show awesome!

Something New at MTC

Beginning May 15th at MTC we will offer something for those of you looking for a GREAT workout at a time that will fit for many of you.  Cardio Kickboxing will be offered Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-7:30am and Saturday 9-10am.

Teaching this new class is Rachel Plumage, a very good friend of the Rosbarskys and a top notch certified group fitness instructor with years of experience.  Rachel will guide you through a great holistic workout that will give your day a great kick-start.

As always at MTC, try a class for free.  Then the cost is $45 per month for non-MTC family members or just $35 per month for MTC family members (those of you who already do TKD or have a family member who does.)

Sign up on the bulletin board at MTC.

Summer Schedule

Belt Tests are scheduled for June 22nd and August 24th.  There will only be a general Poomsae class those days 405pm in the red room.

We will be closed May 28th, July 4th and September 3rd.

Annual All School Class

Every student is invited to participate in our All School Class on June 5th at 6pm.  We will assemble at Franklin Park (on Kemp between 9th and 10th)

This is a fun way to be with all of our TKD Family members.  It is powerful to see all the people who count you as part of their family; all the people you have to look up to and the ones who look up to you.

This gathering is for ALL MTC students.  From white belt to black belt and all levels in between.  We will hold a giant sized regularly formatted class.  Immediately following we will gather for our annual school photo.  There will be not retakes so to be included you must be there.  This year we will also be awarding our first group of Letters for our MCPS Varsity Taekwondoists and presenting a few other awards.

Let's see if we can beat our previous group size of 104 students.  We would like to see all 27-+ students there.

Come in your uniform and tennis shoes.  Come 10 minutes early to help sweep the field for landmines. :)

Become More of YOU- Tournaments and Tests

We say it all the time, but Taekwondo is so much more than kicking an punching.  It is a way to discover who and what you truly are, and maybe, shape yourself into someone you are truly proud to be.  Built into Taekwondo are obstacles that require each person who chooses to take them on to grow into something greater than they were before.  Before you know it these small steps of competing at a tournament or testing for you next belt have begun to amount to a greater you.  A you, you are proud to be.  Choosing to step on the mat is more than most people ever do, but the opportunity for growth in knowledge, ability and self respect are nearly endless when you take advantage of opportunities for growth.  So you have made it this far onto the mat now jump in and take a chance to be even greater.  Sign up for the next test or tournament your possibilities for growth are endless.
